My daughter cut her hair to make a wig for her friend who has cancer, and the next day, her principal called me and said, “Come to school immediately! You won’t believe what happened…”
One evening, my 12-year-old daughter stayed in the bathroom much longer than usual.
“Are you all right, sweetheart?” I asked, a little worried, and gently knocked on the door.
She opened the door, and I froze at the sight of her long blonde locks scattered on the floor. She had cut her hair to her shoulders.
“Lilly… what have you done?” I asked, surprised.
“Do you know my friend Milly? Because of her cancer, she’s lost her hair, and some boys make fun of her. Yesterday, I saw her crying in the bathroom. I don’t want her to feel like that.” I can make a wig for her out of my hair.
I couldn’t hold back my tears as I listened to her, because I knew how much she loved her long hair.
“I’m so proud of you, darling,” I said, hugging her tightly.
Then I helped her carefully tie the cut hair back with a ribbon, and we went to the hairdresser to have it made into a wig.
The next day, she brought it to school, beaming.
After lunch, my phone rang. It was the headmaster. His voice sounded strained.
“Come to school immediately! You won’t believe what happened…”
When I arrived at school, I found Lilly in the principal’s office, surrounded by her classmates.
The principal then explained what had happened.
After seeing my daughter’s gesture, several students had decided to do the same.
Some had offered to donate their hair, others had organized a collection to help sick children.
But the most moving moment came when Milly walked into the room.
She was wearing the wig Lilly had made.
With tears in her eyes, she took my daughter in her arms and said, “Thanks to you, I feel like a normal girl again.”
That day, the whole school understood that a simple act of kindness could change an entire life.
